Coventry City 2-0 Middlesbrough

The Coventry Building Society Arena was a sea of sky blue as a record crowd anxiously watched on to see if Frank Lampard’s Coventry City side’s magnificent climb up the EFL Championship table from 17th to 6th could be rewarded with a play-off spot. With their opponents, Middlesbrough, also vying for one of the last playoff places, it was an eagerly awaited fixture.

A midday kickoff and a bright sunny Saturday made it a tricky match to photograph with the sun directly overhead. I decided to sit in front of the North Stand so that I wasn’t photographing towards the sun and opposite the away fans.

Referee, Stuart Atwell, managed the game so well that there were very few newsworthy incidents in the first half, other than Jack Rudoni’s header just before half time.

After alf time, Coventry pressed for a second goal to guarantee a play off place. It was an entertaining match which the Sky Blues had the advantage of such a vocal crowd. The atmosphere was incredible. Their support was rewarded in the 87th minute when Jack Rudini scored his second goal and booking Coventry City a play-off semi-final against Sunderland.
